All peonies listed are doubles except Jap¬ anese and singles.

Planting Peonies: Prepare ground by dig¬ ging wide and deep, this allows roots to rest on pulverized soil, hard pan soil allows the ground to heave in winter and often lifts the root out of the ground. Plant with eyes or buds about 3 inches below the ground in cold cli¬ mates, 2 inches below in warm climates. Feed the peonies in spring when the new shoots are up about 6 inches by placing manure on top of ground or by raking in bonemeal.

As to ratings of peonies 10 points is per¬ fection the highest rated red is rated 9.2 so that means that reds rating above 8.0 are tops. Carmine reds and pinks are high rated at 8.0 or more. Japanese and singles are not high rated as a rule. Peonies are just like humans, they come tall and short, stout and thin but fhey are all beautiful and make life worth li ' g.
